Energy Network Technology Laboratory

DESCRIPTION

The Energy Network Technology laboratory is located at the Montanuniversity of Leoben and aims to be a demonstration, innovation, and education centre for industrial energy systems. Overall, the laboratory is based on an innovative “Power Hardware in the Loop (PHiL)” approach, where new generation and consumption technologies as well as flexible elements (storage, DSM technologies, etc) are combined to form an integrated system.

This holistic approach allows to analyse and optimise existing energy system technologies, as well as investigations and developments of optimal integration strategies of technologies into the energy system and hybrid energy carrier design approaches. In addition, the PHiL approach allows a real time interaction of the individual components and results in optimisation potentials on the level of technologies, system integration and flexible operational management, without being tied to the same location.

AREAS OF SPECIAL COMPETENCE

The Energy Network Technology laboratory aims to support the optimisation of energy system integration strategies and the investigation and optimisation of (hybrid) energy systems and is based on an innovative PHiL approach.

WHAT CAN BE TESTED

Our hybrid energy laboratory environment, with all inputs and outputs of all subsystems connected via ICTs with interfaces representing a real or simulated industrial environment, allows developing and validating of new generation and consumption technologies as well as flexible elements (storage, DSM, etc.) at rated or extreme industrial load situations.

AVAILABLE INFRASTRUCTURE

The Energy Network Technology laboratory provides a comprehensive "Power Hardware in the Loop" (PHiL) testbed, consisting of hybrid energy system technology simulators (like electrical grid simulators, heat pumps, DSM technologies, etc.).

HOW TO GET STARTED WITH US

If you are interested in partnering in a funded RDI project or searching for hybrid energy testing facilities, feel free to get in touch with us via the contact data given for the laboratory.

PRICING MODEL

The Energy Network Technology laboratory services can be contracted by taking part in our energy model region project NEFI - New Energy for Industry.
Furthermore, the laboratory services can also be subcontracted in individual or new RDI projects. In such a case, pricing is defined individually based on the requested contribution.
